Can I get a document notarized online in Georgia?

No. Georgia has no remote online notarization law. A 2026 bill to create one passed the House but failed in the Senate. Georgians can still use online notaries commissioned in other states.

Georgia has no RON law (yet)

Georgia notaries are commissioned by the Clerk of Superior Court in their county, under Title 45, Chapter 17 of the Georgia Code.1 That law doesn't authorize remote online notarization, and the National Notary Association lists Georgia as "RON not yet enacted into law".7

The 2026 bill failed. SB 8, as rewritten by the House, would have created "remote online notary public" commissions, with standards from the Georgia Superior Court Clerks' Cooperative Authority due by January 1, 2027. The House passed it 115-45 on March 27, 2026; on April 2, 2026 the Senate's motion to agree to the House substitute as amended failed 26-26.2 Nothing has been enacted since, as of our check.

Can you still get notarized online from Georgia?

Usually yes, by using an online notary commissioned in a state that allows RON. What matters legally is the notary's commission state and where the notary sits, not where you are: Texas law lets a Texas online notary notarize "regardless of whether the principal is physically located in this state", and Florida's law says the same for Florida online notaries.45 Platforms such as BlueNotary, Notarize, OneNotary and NotaryLive route you to notaries commissioned in states like these.

Proof summarizes Georgia law as recognizing notarial acts by other states' notaries (Ga. Code §§ 44-2-21, 44-2-17, 44-14-34, 44-14-62 and 9-10-113).3

The person receiving your document still decides. A bank, court, agency or county office can insist on a particular kind of notarization, so ask them first.6

When an online notarization may not work in Georgia

  • Real estate. Deeds are recorded by the Clerk of Superior Court in the county, which decides what it will record. Georgia real estate closings are also attorney-supervised, so ask the closing attorney before using an out-of-state online notary.
  • Recipient rules. Lenders, title companies, courts and government offices can refuse an out-of-state online notarization or ask for a wet-ink original. Ask before you book.6
  • No physical ID or no US credit history. Most platforms verify you with a live scan of a government photo ID plus a credit-based quiz. See getting notarized online without an SSN.
