Mississippi has no RON law in effect
Mississippi notaries can register to notarize electronic documents, but the Secretary of State's rules for it are titled "Use of electronic notarization (in-person)", and they say every requirement of a paper notarization applies, "including the personal appearance and identification of the individual appearing before the notary public".1 The National Notary Association lists Mississippi as "RON not yet enacted into law".9
The 2025 bill died. HB 1154 (2025 Regular Session) would have let a Mississippi notary perform "a remote ink-signed notarization or remote online notarization" after registering with the Secretary of State.2 It passed the House but died in the Senate Judiciary Committee.3
During the COVID-19 state of emergency, the Secretary of State temporarily allowed remote notarization under the Governor's order; that guidance was tied to the emergency proclamation.4
Can you still get notarized online from Mississippi?
Usually yes, by using an online notary commissioned in a state that allows RON. What matters legally is the notary's commission state and where the notary sits, not where you are: Texas law lets a Texas online notary notarize "regardless of whether the principal is physically located in this state", and Florida's law says the same for Florida online notaries.67 Platforms such as BlueNotary, Notarize, OneNotary and NotaryLive route you to notaries commissioned in states like these.
Proof summarizes Mississippi law as recognizing "online notarizations that are properly performed by notaries of other states" (Miss. Code § 25-34-23).5
The person receiving your document still decides. A bank, court, agency or county office can insist on a particular kind of notarization, so ask them first.8

When an online notarization may not work in Mississippi
- Real estate. Deeds are recorded by the county Chancery Clerk, which decides what it will record. Ask the clerk or your title company before using an out-of-state online notary for a deed.
- Recipient rules. Lenders, title companies, courts and government offices can refuse an out-of-state online notarization or ask for a wet-ink original. Ask before you book.8
- No physical ID or no US credit history. Most platforms verify you with a live scan of a government photo ID plus a credit-based quiz. See getting notarized online without an SSN.
